Celebrating Bees on World Bee Day
May 20th is deemed World Bee Day, an occasion to recognize their important roles in ecosystems and in human food production. On the initiative of Slovenia, the United Nations declared May 20th to be World Bee Day, a date intended to emphasize the importance of bees to the survival of humans. May 20 was chosen because it is the birthday of Anton Janša, the founder of modern beekeeping and a native of Slovenia.
