As a scientist and environmental educator, I feel that I must add my two-cents to the November 2016 election results. There’s just too much at stake. I’ve never been a ‘political’ person, and I’m ashamed to admit that the only voice I’ve ever expressed is to vote every four years. But with this new administration, comes too many threats to the natural world that I love; from weakening of the Endangered Species Act, and dismantling our progress against climate change, to a focus on development and not conservation.
So on January 21st, 2017 I participated along with millions of other Americans and citizens around the globe by attending a local march in support of rights for all people and all creatures on this earth. I truly believe that this day signaled a new era dawning on the United States, with a long overdue participation of citizens to make their voices heard about the issues that effect them deeply.
I was so humbled and honored to be a part of this great day. Here in little ol’ Bend, Oregon we had an estimated +3,000 show up in the snow to share their message of peace, love, and dignity. I decided on the spot to help document this day, by photographing folks from all walks of life and of all ages and creating this short video. I hope you like it.
