Succulent Plants Workshop

RESOURCES FOR SUCCULENT PLANTS WORKSHOP
Below you’ll find the resources for Christine’s Succulent Plants Workshop.

SUGGESTED MATERIALS FOR WORKSHOP

In this 90-minute workshop, we’ll learn about the biology and anatomy of succulent plants; drought-tolerant species with fleshy leaves adapted for storing water, including aloes, stonecrops, agaves, euphorbias, and ice plants.

We’ll explore how to depict their fascinating spirally arranged leaves and beautiful flowers. I’ll demonstrate in pencil, pen, and watercolor using a loose, field journal style.

Interestingly, about 30% of the world’s succulent species (not including cacti) are native to South Africa; a country I’ll be leading a sketching tour to in September.

Orchid Sketching Workshop

Since some genera in the orchid family have succulent characteristics, I have included my orchid workshop below for fun. These may include fleshy leaves or succulent pseudobulbs that allow them to store water and live in drier conditions, often as epiphytes. Some examples are species within the genera Bulbophyllum, Coelogyne, Dendrobium, Oncidium, and Vanilla.
