About Page New

Hi, I’m Christine.  I work with educators and parents who struggle to find high-quality environmental education activities for their kids. I provide resources that allow teachers to rest assured knowing they can provide their students with inspiring, entertaining, standards-based projects that work every time.

If this sounds like what you need, let me share why I’m your go-to gal.

  • I earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biology and a certificate in Science Illustration, with graduate research experience in the alpine meadows of the Rockies, wetlands of the Sierra and rivers of Idaho; all of which laid a solid foundation for my science education work.
  • Armed with college diplomas, I set off to take part in field research projects where I netted sharks, sampled pollinators, collected rare plants, tagged wild trout, studied carnivorous plants and their prey, and dissected (well, let’s leave it at that!) In the process, I got chased by moose, stung by jellyfish, fleed crashing trees in lightning storms and had numerous run-ins with black bears. These valuable experiences enriched my ability to excite and educate my students about real research and #actuallivingscientists.
  • I’ve worked in environmental education since 1996, with such notable organizations as the Nature Conservancy, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and National Park Service to name a few.
  • Additional experience in formal education; from middle school to college, taught me how to develop exciting activities that are age-appropriate, work seamlessly and in the time allotted, and conform to State and National subject standards.
  • I’ve led retreats and workshops to such exotic locales as Jamaica, Mexico, and Honduras, sharing my joy and expertise in nature-based education with both students and teachers

In my free time…

When I’m not designing lessons or playing in my art studio you can find me hiking in the Cascades, downward-dogging at the yoga studio, or cooking up a mean pasta ala bottarga. I’m also a travel junkie, having explored Arctic tundra, equatorial rainforests and back alleys of Rome.

Still curious?

If you’re still curious, here’s a few things most people don’t know about me (shhh, don’t tell):

  • In college, I bought a live lobster at the grocery store and set it free in the ocean!
  • I once kept a black widow spider as a pet.
  • I performed surgery on a bumblebee, freeing it from a spider’s web.
  • I once drained an entire SCUBA tank watching a grouper get the parasites removed by cleaner wrasses, just like in Finding Nemo.
  • I love collecting owl pellets and dissecting out the rodent skeletons contained within.
  • I used to compete in underwater hockey – yes, it’s a real sport and I even played at the national level.
  • I love designing costumes and have even won a few Halloween contests!
  • I rode a Harley Davidson 25,000 miles (no, not all at once!)
