Day 5

Although many folks think sketching birds is difficult, a good way to start is by practicing with a photograph, before you attempt sketching living birds outdoors. Since the American Robin is one of the most familiar and widespread birds in North America, let’s start by practicing drawing this beloved bird of parks and gardens.

I have complete confidence that you can be successful at this drawing exercise because I have taught 100’s of people the techniques outlined below in workshops around the country and the world, and each time, folks come up to me afterwards with their sketches and say “This is the best drawing I’ve ever done” or “I’ve never drawn a bird before and I can’t believe it really looks like one.” So I know you can do this!
